The Forest
The forest is the most logged symbol in Archetype Matrix so far. People find themselves in it, lost in it, or standing at its edge.
What Jung wrote
In fairy tales the hero is forever walking into the woods, and Jung paid close attention to that. In his essay on the spirit in fairy tales he points out how often the lost wanderer meets a helper at the very moment there seems to be no way out: an old man, an animal, a voice.
He opens his study of the spirit Mercurius with the Grimm tale of a poor boy who finds a bottle buried among the roots of an old oak in the forest, with something powerful shut inside it. For Jung the dark wood was a natural picture of the unconscious itself. Unmapped, alive, and holding more than it shows.

What we don’t do
We won’t tell you what your forest means. Jung himself distrusted fixed dream dictionaries and held that a symbol can only be read in the life of the person who dreams it. Archetype Matrix only counts: who logged the same image, where, and in what mood.
